Astara fish farm is located near southern border of Azerbaijan in the middle of the mountains. It has 20 lakes of natural origin that are used for fish growing.
All lakes have natural origin and the water exchange happens through mountain waterfalls pushing water into the lakes. The singularity of this lake is that fish grows there from lake own natural with no need of feeding. The soil and bottom springs provide enough nutrition for fish to grow up to 5 kilos (12 pounds) weight. Main types of fish in the lakes are carp, silver carp and grass carp. Today the lakes are producing around 80 tons of fish annually with capability to expand up to 250 tons annually.
